Furniture design prompter

The COVID-19 shutdown took away my access to the wood studio. I’m no coder, but thanks to P5.js, I was able to write a simple program to generate ideas for my furniture-based sculpture.

As soon as the page is opened, a timer counts down from 15 minutes. During that time, I use the text box to free write, forming associations between the prompts and ideas for sculptures. When the timer hits zero, a print dialog box opens and I save to PDF. I use the PDF as reference as I mock up a 3D design in Rhino.

The three variables are: furniture article, image from Siteless, and one of Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies.
Over 1,000,000 combinations are possible.

Try it yourself! (note: if you resize your browser window while the site is open, you will have to refresh page)

Early p5.js experiment

I honestly never thought I would code anything before discovering Processing and its web-based P5.js. This early experiment vaguely references the 4+ years I spent in Chile, exploring my roots and trying to reconcile myself to the Chilean ‘half’ of my identity. Mostly, though, it was just me being fascinated by what I could make happen!
